Two wrongs don’t make it right
Not doing it every day or doing it wrong… Neither will do you any good
Recently, YouTube kept showing me one particular video.
Yikes, no!
I was not interested. The title… the weird-looking man. Definitely not for me.
YouTube persisted. I resisted.
So, YouTube got smarter. It showed me another video by that weirdo… Hmm…. Sure, maybe. Let me take a peek.
Won’t harm, would it?
What a weirdo told me that changed my life
That first video I watched… It was like getting a free sample of a chocolate cookie.
You don’t just stop with one. Oh, no. You buy a bag and go on to stuff yourself with the whole sack.
But unlike chocolate cookies, binging on his videos made me feel good.
And now I’ll tell you why. And how this can change your life, too.
Did you ever hear this advice?
You should journal.
Journaling is good for you.
If you write fiction, it’s especially important that you journal.
Did you ever hear that?
And did journaling make you want to throw out your pens, paper or computer?
Yes, me too. I tried. I even made a journal template in Notion and it worked for a while.
But I’m not build for chores or routines. Journaling became boring. Writing about what happened the day before? I didn’t even remember what I had for dinner, so nothing stood out.
So, I stopped journaling and started to feel guilty. I SHOULD be journaling. It’s so helpful, right?
Later I would often ask myself: When did this event happen? Sadly, I had no trace of it because I didn’t journal.
Because I was all wrong about journaling.
Journaling is not writing a diary
Now I’ll reveal the YouTube video that changed everything for me. And why it did.
I avoided it for so long because it’s called The VOMIT System.
Can you think of anything more disgusting?
It’s actually an acronym that stands for
Vent
Obligations
Mindset
Ideation
Trajectory
I highly recommend that you spend 16 minutes watching the video and take notes.
I’ve made a template following the acronym and I use it every day now.
Why this is powerful
“What happened yesterday?” Hmm… no idea.
But that’s just part of it.
Writing a daily journal with no goal reaches no goal.
Sure, it feels good. "I'm journaling." And yes, in the future you can wonder when something specific happened and look it up.
But it won't help you create a better future.
It won't help you go from where you are now to where you want to be.
This system does.
It makes it easier to remember what happened because if you have something to vent about, you’ll usually remember. “Oh, yes, there was that freaking, useless little sound-missile the neighbors call ‘dog’ that actually ran after me and Nefnef the whole way back to our entrance.”
After it’s out of your head and onto the paper, phew. Now your mind can relax.
And if there’s nothing to vent about, you can just write about what you had for dinner last night… If you remember.
V = peace of mind. But don’t omit the OMIT part
The real gold is in the following parts.
With “obligations” I just write down my biggest task that day. I already have my tiny to-do list in Notion.,
Mindset helps me if I have a big problem. It helps me look at the problem in a healthier way.
Ideation helps me come up with ideas for books and info products to create.
And trajectory, oh wow! It helps me see where I’m wasting my time (which makes me feel bad) and where I’m spending it right (which helps me do more of that).
I simply track my day with bullet points and note if the activity takes me towards or away from my goal.
You can do the same.
Not that you need to be productive 24/7. No! We need to rest and relax, too.
But keep the two things apart. Work when you’re supposed to work and relax when you’re supposed to relax.
And if you ever find yourself with 15 minutes here and there, then you should pick up my new side hustle that has already made me money.

I stumbled on that dude's videos before, but I never saw this one. Off to see what VOMIT is about...
